Article: U.S. business tourism suffers on travel restrictions
Everybody knows that after the terrorist attacks of September 11 it became harder to get a visa and travel to the United States. All the security system has been changed and they now use high technology to create files and keep information on every person who enters the country. Most recently, new restrictions have been imposed forbidding the passenger to carry any type of liquid product. This article talks about how the business tourism is suffering with all this restrictions and the effects of this to the world travel industry.
According to a report released recently, the total of business arrivals in the U.S. has decreases 10% the last 2 years. It has gotten harder to get the visa, travel and enter the US; especially to the people and companies that come from Asia and South America. As a result, we see at the same time, a growing tendency of traveling to Europe to do business (Europe grew 8% for this sector, the same period).
We cannot forget that China, India, Russia and Brazil are predicted to be the markets of the future and the business tourism is a key sector that supports many other industries or as the articles says: "Tourism keeps the world economy on the move". That's why I believe even though the restrictions are important to assure everybody’s safety, something should be done to minimize the negative effects of this measures otherwise they will continue to lose opportunities until it gets to a point when no one will be interested to go there, for business or fun.
